Company description

McKinsey and Company is a management consulting firm originally founded by James O. McKinsey. After his death in the 1930s, the small consulting firm was taken over by Marvin Bower. Mr. Bower defined the integrity of the firm such principles as placing clients interests first, and even declining or withdrawing from an assignment if objectivity could not be maintained. These principles have paid off as repeat business accounts for 80 percent of the company's practice. McKinsey designed the initial organization of NASA, advised the Vatican on its banking system and developed the universal product code. Twenty percent of the consultants working for the firm become partners. All of the company's 80 offices located throughout the globe were started by McKinsey consultants.Top competitors are Andersen Consulting and Boston Consulting.
