AbitibiBowater Inc. is a Delaware corporation that incorporated on January 25, 2007. On October 29, 2007, Abitibi and Bowater combined in a merger of equals with each becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of AbitibiBowater. The combination was designed to create a stronger company to meet changing customer needs, compete more effectively in an increasingly global market, adapt to lower demand for newsprint in North America and deliver increased value to shareholders. AbitibiBowater is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company globally produces a wide range of newsprint, coated and specialty papers, market pulp and wood products. AbitibiBowater is the largest producer of newsprint in the world by capacity and one of the largest publicly traded pulp and paper manufacturers in the world. The company currently owns or operates 23 pulp and paper facilities and 26 wood products facilities located in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea. AbitibiBowater is also among the world's largest recyclers of newspapers and magazines, and it has more third party certified sustainable forestland than any other company does in the world.
