Founded by Herbert Dow in 1897, The Dow Chemical Company incorporated in Delaware and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1937. The company's diversified industry-leading portfolio of specialty chemical, advanced materials, agrosciences and plastics businesses deliver a broad range of technology-based products and solutions to customers in approximately 160 countries and in high growth sectors, such as electronics, water, energy, coatings and agriculture. Dow has the following eight operating segments: electronic and specialty materials, coatings and infrastructure, health and agricultural sciences, performance systems, performance products, basic plastics, basic chemicals, and hydrocarbons and energy. The company's more than 5,000 products are manufactured at 214 sites in 37 countries across the globe. Dow owns 3,661 active U.S. patents and 13,793 active foreign patents. On April 1, 2009, the merger of Rohm and Haas Company was completed, and Rohm and Haas became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dow.
