Company description

Citigroup Inc. is a global diversified financial services holding company trading on the NYSE that was incorporated in 1988 in Delaware. It provides a broad range of financial services to consumer and corporate customers through its three business segments: Citicorp, which consists of the company's regional consumer banking businesses and the institutional client's group; Citi Holdings, which consists of Citigroup's brokerage and asset management and local consumer leading businesses. The third segment is corporate/other. Citigroup has more than 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 100 countries. Headquartered in New York City, the company operates in seven regions: United States, Mexico, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Japan, Asia (excluding Japan) and Latin America. In 2007, the company completed acquisitions in six of these regions. In the United States region, Citigroup acquired ABN AMRO Mortgage Group; Old Lane Partners, L.P. and Old Lane Partners, GP, LLC, Bisys Group Inc. and Automated Trading Desk. In the Latin America region, the company acquired Grupo Financiero Uno and the subsidiaries of Grupo Cuscatlan. In the Asia region, the company acquired the Bank of Overseas Chinese. In the EMEA region, the company acquired Quilter and Egg Banking plc, two U.K. companies. In January 2008, Citigroup completed the acquisition of Nikko Cordial in the Japan region, which it began in 2007.
