Founded by Charles S. Moomy in 1917, Carlisle Companies incorporated in Delaware in 1986 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1986. The company has generated revenue as a manufacturer of rubber tires for lawn and garden equipment, snow blowers, tractors, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), golf carts and dirt bikes; also produces inner tubes and brake linings. As of 2008, the company manufactured rubber and plastics products for the construction segment that includes rubber and plastic roofing system products, rigid foam insulation, waterproofing, and protective coatings. The food service operations manufactured plastic products for market in cafeterias of schools, colleges, and correctional institutions. Carlisle dabbled in the aerospace industry as the manufacturer of specialty wire and cable for data communications, magnetic computer tapes, and magnetically coated plastics for floppy disks. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the company operated 17 manufacturing and warehouse facilities in North America, Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Japan, Europe and China. In the U.S., Carlisle maintained facilities in Texas, Pennsylvania, Maine, South Carolina, South Dakota, Florida, Connecticut, Indiana and Wisconsin. The company's food service product line distributed from 4 primary distribution centers located in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Nevada and Zevenaar, its Netherlands wholesaler.
