KETEMA AEROSPACE & Electronics Div (El Cajon, Calif) is a diversified manufacturing company that makes high-quality metal parts for the aerospace industry, electro-acoustic systems, and remotely piloted submersibles. It has about 600 employees and over 260,000 sq ft of manufacturing space. Its machine shop specializes in cutting Inconel, Rene 41, A-286, titanium, the 300-series stainless steels, and similar hard-to-machine materials. The machine shop contains 14 NC lathes and ten NC mills, and it previously consumed untold quantities of tools and inserts, including the expensive ceramic inserts required to efficiently machine the hard materials, before it installed a computerized cutting-tool-management system in its main and preset tool cribs. …
