Being highly compensated has its price.(Editorial)

OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE HAVE ALL WITNESSED JUST HOW tough life can be in the business world, especially in the manufacturing sector. While it's not fun keeping your head above water in an effort to survive, I do find it amusing how some companies inevitably go off the deep end trying to help the bottom line.

Yes, lean times dictate a need to make unpopular decisions such as reducing staff, eliminating certain benefits, and passing along increases in health-insurance premiums. However, I don't understand when companies lay off top performers because they are highly compensated and replace them with lower-paid individuals who lack experience. I believe this type of action destroys any motivation to work hard and get ahead--especially when a seasoned sales force is involved. …
