What's new in welding technology. (The 1991 AWS welding show) (American Welding Society)

An indication of the rapid pace of advancement in welding technology is the large number of papers and seminars to be presented during the 1991 AWS Welding Convention. To be explored are such topics of current interest as flux-cored arc welding, thermal spraying, lasers, electron-beam welding, and welding fume and realtime expert computer-control systems.

A relatively new and very cost-effective process, flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) has generated considerable interest of late, with expanding applications in stainless and other alloys.

In high-power-density processes, diagnostics and instrumentation are becoming more important, especially at higher power levels. And more varied applications are being considered. …
