New site for engine plant. (Talking Shop).

GLOBAL ENGINE ALLIANCE LLC, THE PARTNERSHIP OF DAIMLERCHRYSLER, Mitsubishi Motor Corp., and Hyundai Motor Co., has selected Dundee, Mich., as the site for its new $400 million engine plant.

Daimler spokesman Dan Bodene told the Toledo Blade newspaper that the selection was based on the 245-acre site's proximity to potential customers, other plants, and DaimlerChrysler resources in Detroit. The auto manufacturer also liked that Dundee was midway between Ann Arbor, Mich., and Toledo, Ohio, providing access to a pool of trained autoworkers. The plant is expected to create 172 jobs its first year and 400 in a five-year period. …
