The drama, based on the astonishing life of Saroo Brierley, tells the story of an Indian boy who is separated from his family and years later, after being adopted by a Tasmanian couple, uses Google Earth to find his home village.

On the surface, Davis’s new film Mary Magdalene sounds worlds, and centuries, apart from Lion.

The biblical drama tells the story of Jesus’s devoted disciple, framing famous events from the New Testament through Mary’s eyes and dispelling the long-held myth that she was a prostitute.

But Davis found parallels between the two stories. …
