Rice, Running as Independent, Wins 8th Ward Aldermanic Seat in Landslide

ST. LOUIS Residents of the 8th Ward have chosen Annie Rice to represent them at the St. Louis Board of Aldermen in a special election she won decisively on Tuesday.

Rice, who ran as an independent candidate, received 1,279 votes, or roughly 60 percent. Her opponent, Paul Fehler, received 853 votes, or about 40 percent, according to final, unofficial results from the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners.

I want to say thank you to everyone who believed in me and pushed me to run. Women have to be asked 14 times to run, statistically, and men have to be asked about three times, and that really motivated me to do this, Rice said Tuesday night. …
