Suspect in Downing of Helicopter Indicted; Jason Kerns Faces 5 Federal Charges.(New Mexico & Metro)

The man accused of shooting down a Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office helicopter on Aug. 6 was indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

Jason Kerns, 29, faces five counts. According to the indictment, count one says Kerns willfully damaged an aircraft.

Count two says Kerns willfully attempted to perform an act of violence against Chris Holland, the pilot of the helicopter, by firing rifle shots at the helicopter.

Count three says Kerns willfully attempted to perform an act of violence against Ward Pfefferle, the spotter aboard the helicopter, by firing rifle shots at the helicopter.

Counts four and five say Kerns discharged a rifle during a crime of violence. …
