Russ "Doc" Denzler was an "old school" physician who loved his patients, made house calls and treated everyone with respect.

The longtime Albuquerque general practitioner died Sept. 3 of a possible heart attack, his son, Dave, said Thursday. Denzler was 89.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper NE.

Lloyd Hurley, a retired Albuquerque surgeon, said Denzler was known for his "loving personality."

Hurley quoted 19th-century writer Oliver Wendell Holmes, who wrote that medicine was one of the noblest professions, and that doctors were not always able to cure, but were able to provide solace and comfort to patients. …
