Ex-Area Pro Follows Plan for Senior Tour.(Sports)

Ron Stelten is 44 years old, but he's still interested in mapping out his future.

"Everything I do is in preparation for (the senior tour)," said Stelten, a former teaching pro at Paradise Hills Golf Club who is competing this week in the Tour's $425,000 New Mexico Classic at Santa Ana Golf Club.

"It's a seven- or eight-year program that I'm on," said Stelten, now living in Palm Desert, Calif. "It's what a person has to do these days."

Stelten shot a 2-under 68 on Friday, giving him a two-day total of 139, eight strokes off the pace being set by Mike Grob. Stelten barely survived the cut to play the weekend. The cut line was 139, leaving Stelten tied for 47th place with 16 other players. …
