Q: I am growing several different herbs, among them lavender, parsley, mint and rosemary. Do I need to bring them in for the winter or will they naturally go dormant then come back next year? Anna Victoria Reich, Albuquerque

A: The herbs you have mentioned will all go dormant then come back in the spring. The parsley will go to seed next summer and you can allow it to reseed itself or remove it and plant new plants.

If you would like you can dig some parsley and keep it on a windowsill to cut during the winter. The other herbs will not do as well as the parsley but can be kept inside in bright light. …
