Gray Wolf Spotted In Ariz.(New Mexico)

A young female Mexican gray wolf who left her pack to search for a mate was spotted Thursday near Winona, Ariz., about 16 miles east of Flagstaff.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service workers were trying to capture the wolf so she could be returned to the captive management facility at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge south of Albuquerque, spokesman Tom Bauer said.

Biologists were worried she might try to cross Interstate 40, he said.

The wolf, a yearling from the Campbell Blue pack, is part of a federal reintroduction program that aims to re-establish a species that was hunted nearly to extinction. …
