Official Denies Union Made Counteroffer.(Metro & New Mexico)

Bus drivers and city negotiators appeared no closer to a new contract Thursday after Local 1745 of the United Transportation Union made its pitch to a City Council committee.

Peggy Hardwick, director of employee relations for the city, said the proposal at the Guidelines Committee meeting Thursday was not a formal offer. She said it would have to be presented to the city at the bargaining table.

"It's very helpful in negotiations to discuss things, but they haven't given me or anyone else in the administration a counterproposal," she said.

The offer was handed to Lawrence Rael, the city's chief administrative officer, by Robert Gutierrez, chairman of Local 1745. …
