The Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus has a terrific group of programs to offer in its 2000-2001 season, which opens on Sunday. The symphony's music director and part-time conductor Steven Smith is a big reason that General Manager Greg Heltman is so optimistic about the ensemble's upcoming concerts.

"Steven is a violinist and a conductor, so he knows both sides of the podium," explains Heltman. "He's dividing his time between working with us and maintaining his job as Assistant Conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra. …
