Water a Concern For Possible 30,000 Homes

A land-use plan for 16,500 acres around the Santa Fe Community College, the projected home of 30,000 people over the next 50 years, was recommended to the Santa Fe County Commission for approval Monday.

But one critic said the plan fails to take into account whether enough water is available to support the prospective community.

Jack Sullivan, a civil engineer and one of three District 5 commission candidates, said the plan looks good on paper, but county planners have neglected the water supply. The amount of available water should determine how much development is possible, he said. …
