Union Approves Contract With City.

Rio Rancho union workers Thursday night approved a contract with the city that provides extra pay for longtime employees a benefit administrators originally intended to nix from the contract.

"There were a lot of happy people and people leaving in good spirits," Cindy Benz, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3277, said after the vote. "Of course we wish we could've gotten a higher percent salary increase but we understand the (financial) position the city is in."

Benz said the proposed contract passed unanimously with 97 percent of voting union members in attendance. …
