Spillage Amount Contested in Dallas

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials didn't resolve differences with Rio Rancho about a July sewage spill into the Rio Grande, a spokeswoman said after Thursday's meeting in Dallas.

City and EPA officials met to resolve discrepancies between the amount of sewage Rio Rancho says it spilled and the federal agency's findings.

The EPA in August issued the city a disciplinary order that says the city violated its discharge permit when on July 13 it allowed 1 million gallons of sludge and waste water to flow from one of its treatment plants into the river more than twice the amount the city first estimated. …
