Appropriations Bill Contains Millions for N.M. Projects.

WASHINGTON The Senate on Thursday sent President Clinton a $19 billion spending bill to pay for public lands, Native American programs, historic preservation and other initiatives.

The Interior Appropriations Bill cleared the Senate on a 83-13 vote. It contains millions of dollars for New Mexico projects, ranging from $2.7 million to buy land at the Petroglyph National Monument to $4 million for the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.

President Clinton is expected to sign the bill. A White House statement said it "is a major step toward ensuring communities the resources they need to protect their most precious lands. …
