People with an interest in history had an opportunity to indulge that passion and also pick up some practical knowledge during a class at historic Tijeras Pueblo on Sept. 23.

Flintknapping master Luther Rivera taught the class, which dealt with the creation and use of stone tools.

The approximately $900 raised by the class will go into the building fund of Friends of Tijeras Pueblo, which has been collecting money to build an educational center behind the Sandia Ranger Station for about 10 years. Friends of Tijeras Pueblo is a nonprofit group working with the Sandia Ranger District to preserve and promote archaeological resources in the Cibola National Forest. …
