Moriarty Schools Eye Drilling Own Wells.(Schools)

The Moriarty Municipal Schools Board of Education is considering drilling its own wells to get away from paying high city utility bills.

Most months the school district's water and sewer bill comes in at about $10,000 even in the summer when nobody is using the school buildings but athletic fields are constantly being watered.

The board directed district staff at its regular meeting Sept. 28 to study the feasibility of drilling its own water wells to keep from having to buy water from the city of Moriarty. The move came after the city charged the district a $1,285 late fee on its July water and sewer bill. …
