Cedar Crest singer/songwriter Maribeth Theisen is among five finalists vying for Best Folk/Country Artist at the Native American Music Awards in November.

The Native American Music Awards, or Nammys, are scheduled for Nov. 11 at Popejoy Hall at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Theisen, whose Cherokee surname and artistic name is LittleDeer, said she entered her CD "Earth Mother" in the competition but was surprised when she found out she was a finalist.

"I'm honored and I'm excited," Theisen said in a recent interview, adding that "Earth Mother" is her first CD. …
