Belen Squads Split On Southern Trip

District play is in full swing for the county's prep soccer teams, and each game is taking on greater importance. The weekend proved to be a big one for Los Lunas and Belen.

The Tigers hosted the Anthony Gadsden Panthers in a rare doubleheader on Saturday, while the Eagles were on the road to face Silver City and Deming.

LOS LUNAS: The Lady Tigers (10-1-1, 1-0-1) outshot and outlasted the Panthers en route to a 1-0 victory, while the boys stood up to a physical Gadsden team and won 4-0.

The only thing hotter than the Lady Tigers' offense on Saturday was the Panthers' goalkeeper, Ana Valtierra. Los Lunas racked up 42 shots on goal; Valtierra had 36 saves on the afternoon.
