Officials Say Doors Will Stay Open

La Mesa Christian School is struggling to keep its doors open for 243 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

In a Sept. 18 letter, the school board told parents that the school is in a "severe financial crisis."

"As a school board, we have tried for 2 1/2 years to put the school back on a solid financial footing, but have not been successful we (are seeking) your help as a parent in turning this crisis around," the letter said.

At a Monday meeting with parents, officials said the school needs an additional $868 from each family to see it through to the end of the school year "in the black. …
