'80s Teammates To Face Off in 2AAA Showdown.

* Horsemen Coach Tracy Stuart and Tiger Coach Richard Main played together at Raton

One of the first stories St. Michael's High School football coach Tracy Stuart will tell you about Raton's Richard Main goes something like this: Pain, blindside hit and more pain.

It seems that while the two were teammates at Raton High School in the early 1980s, Stuart, then the Tigers' starting quarterback, and Main, the Tigers' star defensive lineman, had a collision. It happened during a 1981 practice session and both can still recall it with crystal clarity.

"He hit me in the ear hole so hard that he just about knocked me into next week," Stuart, 37, said during a break in preparations this week for Saturday's District 2AAA showdown between the Horsemen and Tigers in Santa Fe.

"Don't listen to any of that," joked Main, in his first year as head coach at Raton. "If Tracy tells you he was hurt because of that hit, he's making it up. …
