Panel Backs Change On Nov. 7 Ballot

After almost eight years as sheriff of Rio Arriba County, Nelson Cordova doesn't relish the prospect of having to step down in 2002 because of a term limit set by the New Mexico Constitution.

Cordova presented a resolution last week asking the County Commission to support a proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would eliminate term limits for elected county officials.

"This is not only for Nelson Cordova. It's for all elected (county) officials in the state," he said Wednesday.
