Incidents Prompt Parent Concerns

Parents near panic over rumors of attempted child kidnappings and a reported rape prompted Santa Fe police to issue a warning against suspicious vehicles Wednesday.

Police fielded at least four reports of suspicious motorists approaching children and attempting to lure them into their vehicles in the past week. One case resulted in a sexual assault, said police Deputy Chief Beverly Lennen.

Parents and teachers should caution children not to approach or talk to anyone they do not know. If approached by a stranger, a child should immediately contact an adult he or she knows; that person, in turn, should contact police or school authorities, police said. …
