Kelly Moves Into Backup QB Spot.(Sports)

The knee injury backup quarterback Jeremy Denson suffered in the University of New Mexico football team's 45-10 win over Wyoming last weekend has forced the Lobos to turn to a new relief pitcher should starter Rudy Caamano go down.

Fortunately, redshirt freshman Casey Kelly has experience on the mound.

Kelly is a 6-foot, 3-inch walk-on from Portland, Ore., who for now is the second-string quarterback behind Caamano. He was a third-team all-state quarterback, throwing for 2,000 yards at Westview High School.

Kelly also was a third-team all-state pitcher drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 32nd round of the 1999 baseball draft. …
