Attorneys Protest Clients' 'Lockdown'.(Metropolitan)


Murder suspects Diazien Hossencofft and Linda Henning were in state District Court on Tuesday, contesting how they are being held in jail.

Both defendants have been in administrative segregation or "lockdown" at the Bernalillo County Detention Center. They are awaiting trial on charges of murder, kidnapping and other crimes in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of 36-year-old Girly Chew Hossencofft. She has been missing since September 1999.

Last week, defense attorneys filed motions asking Judge Richard Knowles to review their clients' confinement, saying it is affecting their ability to mount a proper defense.

Hossencofft, 35, is being denied writing instruments to make notes for his attorneys, his papers are searched so his attorneys cannot provide him with confidential information and he is unable to use the telephone or law library, the motion said. …
