Soccer Game May Be Replayed.(Sports)

If the girls soccer coaches at Cibola and Valley get their way, there will not be a shootout to decide a tie game that should never have been a tie in the first place.

Last week, the Cougars and Vikings contrary to the rules mandated in the District 1AAAAA handbook were forced to play two, 10-minute overtime sessions, a format that led to a 2-2 deadlock.

Ric Maxey, assistant director with the New Mexico Activities Association, was onsite last Thursday at the New Mexico Tournament Soccer Complex and ruled that the teams had to play 20 minutes of OT (with no shootout), instead of 10 and a shootout.

That was in direct conflict with the 1AAAAA handbook, which calls for two, five-minute OT sessions, followed by a shootout. …
