* Friends' bluegrass band becomes good enough to win awards at music fests

What started as a hobby for a few local musicians has turned into an award-winning bluegrass band.

Two guitars, one bass, a dobro, a fiddle and a lot of heart and soul make up Coyote Crossing, a Rio Rancho-based band.

The five-member group won first place in the bluegrass category at the Santa Fe Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival in August. Now, band members say they hope to take their award-winning sound to as many bluegrass festivals as possible.
