Shortage Forces Hospital To Ration Flu Shots.

Due to a nationwide holdup in flu vaccines this year, St. Vincent Hospital announced Tuesday it is rationing flu shots at its free vaccination clinic.

Hospital officials said earlier they ordered enough doses of the vaccine to handle everyone in the region likely to want one. The hospital planned to open its scheduled flu shot clinic to the general public on Oct. 14.

But U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended this week that, because of a national shortage of the vaccine, shots should only be given to those most at risk of suffering from the flu. The New Mexico Department of Health Influenza Vaccine Consortium echoed the suggestion. …
