N.M. Observers Saw Event As Riveting, Dull, Waste of Time.

Tom Hancock wasn't sure who won Tuesday night's presidential debate, but he was sure about one thing.

"Bars and politics don't mix," he said amid whooping and hollering from fans watching baseball on television at Sidelines, a sports bar on Albuquerque's West Side.

Hancock was tuned into the lone TV airing Tuesday's debate between presidential candidates Al Gore and George Bush.

"I couldn't hear it very well," he said. "I sure hope Bush won. I'm a Republican by nature."

But several New Mexicans politicians, political analysts and just plain voters said neither candidate came away the hands-down winner. …
