Taos Inmates To Be Sent to Santa Fe Jail.

Prisoners To Leave San Miguel Facility

TAOS Taos County officials announced plans Monday to transfer up to 34 Taos inmates housed at the San Miguel County Jail to the Cornell Corrections facility in Santa Fe.

County Attorney Mary Lane Leslie said Monday the transfers were being made to meet a contractual obligation that the county house a minimum of 40 prisoners at the Santa Fe jail in order for Cornell to guarantee bed space.

The aging, problem-plagued Taos lock-up was home to nine inmates when County Manager Robert Dale Morrison issued an emergency order to close the jail Friday. He acted out of concern that a rumored sick-out by some detention center officers might leave the jail unmanned on the midnight-to-8 a. …
