Shuttlejack Crash Lawsuits Settled.(New Mexico)

*State, school district agree to pay $2.1 million to families of victims

SANTA FE The state of New Mexico and an insurance company representing Santa Fe Public Schools agreed Friday to pay $2.1 million to families whose relatives were killed or injured in the Shuttlejack crash last year.

The school district and state agreed to pay $1.05 million each, the maximum allowed under the state Tort Claims Act. The plaintiffs must divide the money among themselves. Not all families affected by the March 1999 crash sued for damages.

"I truly believe there was communitywide complacency about Shuttlejack. And complacency is different than guilt," school board President Carla Lopez said. …
