Clinton Promises To Veto Funds For National Nuke Laboratories

WASHINGTON President Clinton has vowed to veto a water and energy bill approved by the Senate on Monday that contains more than $5 billion for the national nuclear laboratories.

The Senate approved the Energy and Water Development appropriations bill 57 to 37. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., and Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., supported the bill, which goes to the president.

Clinton is expected to veto the measure because he disagrees with language in the bill related to the Missouri River.

Clinton wants the Army Corps of Engineers to adopt a management plan for the river that would release more water during the spring to improve wildlife habitat. …
