Salvation Army Has To Replace Cooler

The Salvation Army is carrying an "extra burden" as it approaches Thanksgiving and Christmas, its busiest times of the year.

Last month, the charitable agency's walk-in cooler caught fire on the inside after an electrical malfunction. The cooler, which was beyond repair, was housed at the Downtown building on Broadway between Coal and Lead, Salvation Army Capt. George Beauchamp said Monday.

A new cooler cost about $45,000. Some of the agency's donors came through with about $15,000. It needs to raise $30,000 to pay off an internal loan, Beauchamp said.
