Ignored Warning Gives Mitchell Win in DCM.(Sports)

For a few brief moments Sunday, Barner Colmenares of Caracas, Venezuela, had a Duke City Marathon men's record, blistering the field through the North Valley in less than 2 hours, 20 minutes.

But race officials stripped Colmenares of the record, the victory and the $3,000 prize that went along with the two achievements after it was determined the 33-year-old was aided along the route.

"Either you're a sanctioned race, or you're not," said race director Tico Navarro in explaining the unusual step of disqualifying Colmenares.

The disqualification left Teddy Mitchell of Alamosa, Colo., the winner in a time of 2:28. …
