Mustangs Rush Past Outmanned Pintos

The Highland football team's offensive machine continued to roll Saturday as the second-ranked Hornets punished Valley 42-7 at Wilson Stadium.

Highland (5-0) scored touchdowns on each of its first five possessions, building a 35-0 halftime lead and never looking back.

"This is mostly a senior team, and it shows," Hornets coach Judge Chavez said. "These kids have been running our offense since they were freshmen and sophomores."

Valley (1-4) moved the ball effectively on the game's first series, but three consecutive Vikings penalties killed the drive. A Valley punt gave Highland the ball at its 21 and the track meet began.

Kevin Phillips had a 30-yard run, and Matthew Long hit Mark Walters with a 17-yard pass during a nine-play, 79-yard drive. Stephan Melendez capped it with a 6-yard scoring run, and Josh Maes booted the extra point to put the Hive up 7-0. …
