Daylong rally incorporates survivors' stories, prevention ideas.

A daylong rally against domestic violence promises family activities, food and music along with ceremonies to stir the emotions and speeches to spur action.

"Break the Cycle Not the Family" is expected to draw 3,000 people over the course of the day. It is scheduled at Civic Plaza from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 28.

The New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence is targeting the whole family with the event.

"We want to educate the public about the effect of domestic violence on the family," says Agnes Maldonado, executive director of the New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence. "It's not acceptable."

On average in New Mexico, one woman is murdered every month in a domestic violence incident. …
