Art Therapist Says Image Gentler Than the Word.(Career Marketplace)

Some of the most disturbing pictures art therapist Kris Sly-Linton has ever seen were drawn by an adolescent girl who had been ritually abused.

Sly-Linton refers to the images as "demonic," "horrifying things 'from the other side.' '' She calls them a type of self-portrait the girl drew of what she had endured for years.

Most of Sly-Linton's work has focused on art and clients suggesting shorter-term, less pathologic damage. There have been drab, colorless paintings by depressed adults and children and pictures of rootless trees indicating the artists might not have felt "grounded" or connected with support systems such as their families. …
