Flutist finds breathing room in Geneva.(Arts & Culture)

Flutist Emmanuel Pahud left Berlin for Geneva to get more breathing room in his career.

"I couldn't 'breathe' anymore with three positions at the same time active soloist, principal flutist and father," Pahud said in an e-mail from his Geneva home.

"I wouldn't have any free time at all, no rest when I was back home in Berlin, and no places around to go on holiday for just a couple of days."

So Pahud quit his position as principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic and moved to Switzerland to accept a teaching position at the Conservatoire de Musique.

The 30-year-old Pahud said the Geneva conservatory offered him the best balance for his active life. …
