"The Price We Pay," La Compania de Teatro de Alburquerque's season opener, is a sophisticated look at New Mexico politics through the eyes of a candidate for governor and his family.

The first act is awfully good, and the second act has some excellent scenes, even as it falls apart.

It's the story of Eddie Laredo (Lupe H. Preciado), the candidate; his wife, Anna (Greta Quezada), an assistant district attorney who gives up her job "for the duration;" Eddie's father, Leo (Vic Silva), who has fought his own electoral battles; and Kiki Duran (J. Anthony Wasson, Jr.), an adviser who might as well be family. …
