UNM Orchestra's Tuesday program is all Russian.(Arts & Culture)

The UNM Orchestra gives an all-Russian concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Popejoy Hall.
The program will have Modest Mussorgsky's "A Night on a Bare Mountain," Dmitri Shostakovich's Concerto No. 1 for Violincello and Orchestra and Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.
"I want to try to give the students some of the major Romantic Russian repertoire," said Jorge Perez-Gomez, the orchestra's conductor and a UNM music professor.
"It gives them a good taste of the importance of Russia's contributions in 19th- and 20th-century music."
The featured soloist in the Shostakovich piece, a staple of contemporary cello literature, is Romanian cellist Anton Niculescu. …
