Revived Offense Boots the 'Pokes

The rout came a week late, but at least it arrived.

The University of New Mexico football team, expected to rip NCAA Division I-AA Northern Arizona before having to scrap to a seven-point win, took out its whuppin' stick on the Wyoming Cowboys.

The Lobos' 45-10 victory in front of 25,089 fans at University Stadium on Saturday was their largest margin of victory in coach Rocky Long's three-year tenure.

More importantly, UNM (3-3, 1-0) won its third straight, also a new standard under Long, and began its Mountain West Conference schedule on what just might be considered a positive note.

"We said all along that one of these days it was all going to click," said linebacker Mike Barnett, who had UNM's last TD on a 25-yard fumble return. …
