Polls Reveal Generation Gap Among New Mexico Voters.(Editorial Page)(Column)

New Mexico has a bit of a generation gap among likely voters, especially when it comes to rating the job performance of Republican Gov. Gary Johnson.

A Journal poll in mid-September found Johnson's popularity was highest among younger voters and worst among older voters: 59 percent of voters between the ages of 18 and 34 approved of his job performance, while 55 percent of those 65 and older disapproved.

"Younger adults have more open minds about drug reform, so it's not surprising they'd be more complimentary of the governor's job performance," said Brian Sanderoff, president of Research and Polling Inc., which conducted the statewide poll Sept. 7-13.
