Nominees Sought For Rights Awards.(Metropolitan)

The city of Albuquerque Human Rights Board is accepting nominations for its Human Rights Awards.

The awards honor people who work on expanding human and civil rights, equal opportunity and equal access.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Dec. 4.

The winners will be honored in March at the 12th annual Human Rights Awards and Recognition Ceremony at the Uptown Sheraton.

Nominations are being accepted for the following:

* Frank J. Miranda Jr. Bridge is an award given to people who reach out to bridge differences among races, ethnicities and cultures;

* The Miguel Trujillo Unsung Hero Award is for someone who has made a significant and positive contribution to human rights but has not been appropriately recognized for the effort;

* The Human Rights Award is given to people who work at preserving, promoting or otherwise contributing to human rights and human dignity, equal opportunity and equal access in areas of employment or public accommodations;

* The Affirmative Action Award goes to an employer demonstrating leadership in the creation or initiation of equal opportunity and affirmative action programs in the workplace; and

* The Fair Housing Award is given to people who have worked to eliminate housing discrimination. …
